NOMADgardens is a roaming community garden in the heart of Mission Bay San Francisco. They rent 2’x4’ raised beds to local residents to grow their own food and teach health, wellness and urban agriculture classes in the garden and throughout the community.

Through wonderful community partners, NOMADgardens is the first vacant lot in Mission Bay to be activated on behalf and for the community. Their vision is to continue to build the garden into a vibrant hub that connects its diverse community through food cultivation and education, helping to build and sustain a healthy, happy and thriving community.

To respond to the rapid growth of our neighborhood, the garden was designed to be moveable, meaning all parts of the garden can be picked up with a forklift, placed on a truck and relocated to another available parcel within Mission Bay.

‘I love NOMADgardens and container gardening rocks! I started out knowing almost nothing about what to grow, soil, fertilizer, etc and now while I am far from an expert I am enjoying yummy organic self-grown treats from the garden regularly. The other gardeners are wonderful, supportive and love to share their knowledge. I have grown tomatoes, carrots, celery, bell peppers, spicy peppers, lettuce of all varieties, kale, herbs, strawberries, cucumbers and so much more. When I first heard it was a 2’x4′ container I thought, well I won’t be able to get much variety, but boy was I wrong. As the containers are deep, the roots have lots of room to grow down, thus needing less spacing.’ – Miche P., Yelp
